Established in 1963, the Matlacha Pine Island Fire Control District works to protect the lives, property and environment of the city of Bokeelia from the threats and occurrences of emergencies. It works with a team of over 40 staff members. The district provides services in an area of more than 45 square miles and responds to over 1,500 emergency calls. The Matlacha Pine Island Fire Control District provides basic life support, rescue service, fire inspection, public fire education and boat operations services. It serves more than 15,000 residents annually. The district maintains a fleet of inventory that includes engines, brush trucks, tankers, rescue boats and staff vehicles.
