The Public Works Department is responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of the infrastructure of unincorporated Manatee County, including its street lights, traffic signs, canals and stormwater inlets. It employs about 280 staff members under the guidance of Director Ron Schulhofer, and its services are divided among engineering, field operations and traffic management. The department's one-story complex off U.S. 301 includes a maintenance facility for the department's construction vehicles and MCAT buses.
