Dr. Ayer graduated from Florida A&M University in 1994. She earned her Medical Degree at Wake Forest University in 1998. She studied internal medicine at Emory University. until 2001 During her initial medicine training, she became interested in hematology and oncology. She enrolled in Emory for a fellowship in hematology and oncology. During her fellowship in hematology and oncology, she moonlighted in the bone marrow transplant ward and 24-hour Grady Memorial Sickle Cell Center and developed a special interest in sickle cell.
Dr. Ayer opened Central Tampa Hematology and Oncology in Tampa in 2005 while working also for Lifepath Hospice, which provided her expertise in pain management and palliative care.
Dr. Ayer practices evidence-based medicine. She stays current by regularly attending conferences of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, National Cancer Coalition Network, Moffit Cancer Center, and Florida Center for Sickle Cell Research.
