History
in 1962, the original Indian Temple Mound Museum opened as the first city owned museum in the state of Florida. It was created through the efforts of William and Yulee Lazarus and the dedication og the local community. The present Indian Temple Mound Museum building opened in 1971 to house the extensive artifact collection fom this area's prehistoric Native American cultures.

* Exhibits in the Indian Temple Mound Museum include artifacts from European Explorers, local pirates, and Native Americans. * There are over 10,000 artifiacts from a 40-mile radius of downtown Fort Walton Beach, including one of the finest selections of prehistoric Southeastern Ceremonial pottery. * The Camp Walton Schoolhouse museum is a restored two-room schoolhouse used as a school from 1912-1936. Grades 1-8 were taught in the orginial on room school, with the high school room for grades 9-12 being added in 1927. * Garnier Post Office Museum was a post office from 1918 until about 1956. Euphrates Mooney served as postmaster from 1918 until his death in 1935. His wife took over as postmistress until the building closed in 1956. * Civil War Exhibit building opened in June 2011 to showcase local and regional Civil War history. Exhibits include Battles of Santa Rosa Sound and Olustee, secession, slavery, prisoners of war, Western Theater
