Escambia County Head Start is a child development program that serves children up to 5 years of age and families. It focuses on school readiness of young children in low-income families. The program includes services in the areas of education and early childhood development training. It emphasizes nutrition consulting, parent counseling, and medical, dental and mental health management services. Escambia County Head Start also provides opportunities for participation in a variety of educational activities that helps children to grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. It includes developmental screening, psychological counseling, behavioral health monitoring and other support services. Escambia County Head Start is a part of the Community Action Program Committee, also known as CAPS, which offers health care education, parenting training and credit counseling services, as well as several programs focusing on the housing, employment and educational needs of low-income families. Escambia County Head Start is offered at one of its centers in Pensacola, Fla.
