It provides one or more of these services to approximately 87,000 homes and businesses, including as a wholesale power utility to the city of Alachua. Through a designated formula, Gainesville Regional Utilities provides funding to the city of Gainesville, which helps support city services such as police, fire protection, parks and recreation. The company also operates its utility systems in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to environmental laws, regulations and standards as well as promoting the wise use of energy and water.
