History
FLSARC was created by a team of professional animal emergency responders who, along with the state of Florida, saw a need for training on emergency sheltering for family pets. Over 40% of individuals who did not evacuate during Hurricane Katrina said they stayed because they couldn't bring their pets to a shelter. This inspired us to create training on emergency and pet-friendly sheltering care for animals affected by disasters. We also maintain a team of skilled volunteers to respond when disaster strikes.
Specialties
FLSARC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping companion animals affected by natural and manmade disasters. We teach classes in emergency sheltering throughout Florida and are often requested in other states. FLSARC only responds to communities when local resources are overwhelmed. We deploy only at the request of state, county, or local authorities. Go to our website, flsarc.org to register for a class near you.
