Farm Credit of Southwest Florida is a member-owned agricultural lending cooperative that serves farmers and agri-businesses in Southwest Florida. The cooperative is part of the nationwide Farm Credit system, created by Congress in 1916 to provide rural America with a dependable source of funding for agriculture and agriculture-related enterprises. Farm Credit of Southwest Florida provides agricultural loans that include long-term farm and country home loans; intermediate-term loans for buildings, machinery and other equipment; intermediate-term loans for land, construction, livestock and improvements; short-term production loans for both full-time and part-time farmers; and loans for agriculture-related businesses. The cooperative structure means a portion of the profits generated from lending activity is returned to borrowers in the form of patronage refunds, which reduces the cost of borrowing for customers. Farm Credit of Southwest Florida also provides other financial services, such as financing for homeowners, truck and equipment leasing, credit life insurance and crop and tree insurance.
