The Catholic Charities office in St. Petersburg, Fla., is a branch location of Catholic Charities USA, a nonprofit network. Its St. Petersburg agency was created in 1968. The agency serves all residents of Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties in Florida. The Catholic Charities USA network is made up of numerous independent, local Catholic Charities agencies and institutions throughout the United States. Its community-based programs provide services, such as adoptions, emergency food and shelter, daycare, and refugee resettlement. Catholic Charities USA supports and enhances the work of its membership by providing networking opportunities, national advocacy through media efforts, program development, training, technical assistance and financial support. Catholic Charities agencies and institutions nationwide provide vital social services to people in need, regardless of their religious, social, or economic backgrounds. Founded in 1910 as the National Conference of Catholic Charities, Catholic Charities USA is headquartered in Alexandria, Va.
