Established in 1917, The Okeechobee County Sheriff s Office is a public safety agency that works to provide crime prevention services. It operates a communication center that receives more than 28,000 nonemergency and over 5,000 emergency calls. The department maintains a uniform patrol division that responds to nearly 28,000 calls for service. The Okeechobee County Sheriff s Office has a school resource unit that works in partnership with the Okeechobee County School Board. It also operates a corrections division that has 230-plus-bed negative pressure rooms and housing units of various custody levels and capacities. It additionally administers neighborhood and crime prevention and citizen volunteer programs. The Okeechobee County Sheriff s Office is a part of the government of the city of Okeechobee in Florida.
