The Florida Department of Corrections is one of the largest state prison systems in the United States. It features more than 135 facilities that include institutions, annexes, road prisons, and work camps and release centers. The department works to protect the public safety. The Florida Department of Corrections administers several academic, vocational and substance abuse programs for inmates and offenders. The department admits over 41,000 and releases nearly 37,000 inmates annually. It also places 107,000 offenders on community supervision. The Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Field Services division works to protect the community by supervising offenders commensurate with the level of supervision.
