With more than 6,300 employees, including nearly 2,800 certified deputies and more than 600 fire rescue professionals, the Broward County Sheriff's Office is one of America's largest nationally accredited sheriff's departments. BSO provides full-time law enforcement services in nearly 15 Broward cities and towns and in all of Broward's unincorporated areas, serving more than one-third of the county. In addition, the office protects the Broward County Courthouse, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, countywide mass transit, areas of the Everglades and the county's waterways. The department of law enforcement, in addition to road patrol and other customary operations, administers special units such as the bomb squad, the canine unit, school resource deputy unit and the child protective investigations section. The department of detention and community control administers the county's jails and its offender programs. The Broward County Sheriff's Office is located in Weston, Fla.
