Qualified for a Broker's license and formed Codi Realty, managing apartment buildings in the Glover Park neighborhood of Washington D.C. During that time he was also involved in the sale and renovation efforts of the hundreds of historic brownstone townhouse shells in the Northeast area of Capitol Hill that were torched during the 1968 Martin Luther King assassination riots. Moved to Lewes Delaware, a historic seaside town founded in 1631 by Dutch Settlers (aka as "the First Town in The First State ) located North of Ocean City Maryland. There he managed and sold investment homes and condos while participating in varied renovation and development projects. He was the manager of the Lewes Beach Office of Anderson-Stokes, the largest realty company on the Eastern Seaboard Following the investment real estate market crash of 1987, Dick and Joyce Doumeng hired Alan and his new bride Valerie to work in resort management on the Island of St. Thomas U.S.V.I. The Doumengs owned and operated the, The Limetree Resort and the Elysian Luxury Resort, all on St. Thomas. Alan was resident manager and Valerie was food & beverage manager. They lasted 3 seasons of hurricanes (and good fun ). Our favorite Island hang-outs were Orient Bay on the French Side of St. Martin, and the beach at the beautiful little village of St. Anne on the French Island of Guadeloupe.
