Founded in 1967, Air Force Enlisted Village, formerly known as Air Force Enlisted Widows Home Foundation, is a safe, secure and dignified place for indigent surviving spouses of retired Air Force personnel. It was founded by the Air Force Sergeant's association when it conducted a survey and found that over 50,000 widows of enlisted men were living in poverty. Air Force Enlisted Village offers housing and financial assistance to surviving spouses of enlisted Air Force members. Its Bob Hope Village is a retirement community that offers senior living and assisted living facilities. The agency provides housekeeping, beauty salon, transportation and laundry services. It has a staff that includes servers, housekeepers and in-house maintenance. The agency also conducts several recreational and social activities, such as arts and crafts, bingo and card games, special event celebrations, and holiday and birthday parties. Air Force Enlisted Village maintains a location in Shalimar, Fla.
