Established in 1992, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is a public agency that supports Florida's agricultural economy. It ensures the safety of food and other consumer products through inspection and testing programs. The agency protects consumers from unfair and deceptive business practices and provides consumer information. The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services also assists Florida's farmers and agricultural industries with the production and promotion of agricultural products. In addition, it conserves and protects the state's agricultural and natural resources by reducing wildfires, promoting environmentally safe agricultural practices and managing public lands. Located in Tallahassee, Fla., the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services maintains plant industry, marketing and development, agricultural environmental services, dairy industry, food safety, fruit and vegetables, consumer services, forestry, animal industry, aquaculture and licensing divisions.
