Epilepsy Foundation was founded in 1968 as the Epilepsy Foundation of America. It is located in Landover, Md., and is a voluntary agency solely dedicated to the welfare of the people with epilepsy and their families. It is a system of community-based organizations that works together to provide access to critical services to the epileptic patients of all ages. The agency also provides information and referral services customized for their communities through toll-free lines, sponsorship of professional education seminars for allied health professionals and educators, mobilizing individuals to serve as advocates and participating in public education campaigns. It prevents, control and cure epilepsy through research, education, advocacy and services. Epilepsy Foundation is funded primarily through individual donations from the general public and also receives grants support from the federal government, foundations and private industries.
