History
Tonic at Quigley's resides in what was formerly known as Dr. Quigley's Pharmacy. George Washington University alumnus, Richard Lucien Quigley, opened Quigley's pharmacy in 1891. For twenty-one years, Lucien filled prescriptions, sold medicines, and eventually added Cokes and burgers to the list when he added a lunch bar to the pharmacy. In 1974, the George Washington University bought the building and the site became home to the Department of Geography for several years. Finally, GW sold the building and in 2007 Tonic At Quigley's opened its doors. With a deep respect for the generosity and spirit of Richard Quigley, we have worked hard to maintain the integrity and image of Dr. Quigley's pharmacy. Tonic at Quigley's Pharmacy is honored to have taken up residence in such a historic building, and to continue the tradition of serving burgers and cokes to the students and residents of Foggy Bottom.
