The Society of the Plastics Industry, founded in 1937, is a trade association representing manufacturing industries before federal and state government bodies in the United States. Its members represent the plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw materials suppliers. The association informs members about important legislative and regulatory policy developments, identifies trends and emerging issues of concern, and communicates the value of the plastics industry and its products to key audiences. It serves as a resource for members needing technical expertise, statistical information and regulatory compliance assistance. The association sponsors various trade shows, including NPE and Plastics USA. It maintains liaison with national and international technical and regulatory groups to develop standards for product performance and safety and to protect existing markets for plastics and open new ones. The Society of the Plastics Industry is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
