With more than 1.4 million members, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is North America s largest, most diverse union. As such, the organization engages in collective bargaining between employees and management and ensures that contracts are enforced. Its chief concerns are decent wages, fair promotion, health coverage, job security, paid time off and retirement income. Though long associated with freight drivers and warehouse workers, the organization represents both professional and non-professional workers in nearly all industries, including agriculture, sanitation, newspapers, construction, health care and mass transportation. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was established in 1903 with the merger of the Team Drivers International Union, the Teamsters National Union and several other unions. It now has more than 500 local chapters throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
