The Sheet Metal Workers International Association is an international labor union with membership in the AFL-CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress. It provides policy direction and program support on behalf of its membership through more than 102 local unions. It represents more than 150,000 skilled craftpersons in the unionized sheet metal industry throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Sheet metal workers are perform a variety of trades, including archietecural, metal work, installation and service of heating, ventilating and air conditioning and shipbuilding. SMWIA was founded on January 25, 1888 in Toledo, Ohio. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
