Established in 1989, DC Central Kitchen is a community kitchen that recovers unused food, prepares and delivers meals to social service agencies. It recycles surplus food and turns it into meals for several people in Washington, D.C. The kitchen s First Helping program provides various street-level meal, referral and counseling services to homeless people. DC Central Kitchen also offers a community voice mail program to help individuals maintain contact with family members, employers and service agencies. Its Meal Distribution program provides meals to community nonprofit programs. DC Central Kitchen offers a culinary job training program for unemployed adults seeking financial stability.
