The Black Women Playwrights' Group (BWPG) is a service and advocacy organization dedicated to supporting African American playwrights in the professional theater industry. With a membership that spans from first-time playwrights to award-winning veterans, BWPG offers critique, workshops, readings, and information on production opportunities, as well as connections to producers. Additionally, BWPG serves as a valuable resource for writers of color in local universities, DC Public Schools, group homes, and programs for families affected by incarceration.
Driven by a shared understanding of self within family, community, and the world, BWPG believes in the power of language to shape actions and lives. Founded in 1989 and incorporated in 1993, the organization's mission is to support and promote the work of its members while advocating for critical issues within the theater world.
