The AIDS Care Program was established in 1984 in response to the increasing number of individuals being treated for HIV/AIDS at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The program includes outreach, testing, counseling, community support, and outpatient and inpatient clinical care services. It is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, HIV counselors, social workers and clinical researchers. The AIDS Care Program also includes educational presentations for various local schools, churches and community-based organizations. Its counselors conduct secondary prevention sessions, attend health fairs and participate in community outreach programs. Yale-New Haven Hospital is a 900-plus-bed tertiary referral center that includes Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. It maintains a presence in New Haven, Conn.
