Waterford's animal control office is a regional facility in Waterford that serves the town of East Lyme as well. Waterford police can handle animal disturbances, but the department recommends calling animal control during regular business hours. Police officers will handle animal complaints when the office is closed.
The animal control officer also detains lost dogs at the animal shelter. The office requires all residents that find a lost dog to call animal control, which will hold the animal in the pound. If nobody claims the dog, the person who found the animal will get first priority in adopting the dog.
The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection handles all wild animal calls at 860-424-3333.
