The Southport Congregational Preschool & Toddler Program, located at the 524 Pequot Ave. church in the town's Southport neighborhood, is open to children from 2 through 4 years of age.
The church states that it strives to provide a safe, constructive and loving environment so children will enjoy coming to school every day and that its primary goal is to teach children socialization skills in small groups with plenty of teacher interaction.
Activities include arts and crafts, computers, day trips, free play, games, gross motor equipment, manipulative toys, a music period, nature study, outdoor play, play apparatus, puppets, puzzles, snack, a story hour and tape recorders/players.
The pre-school and toddler program says it maintains age-appropriate learning goals to encourage social development, motor development, and to develop verbal and cognitive skills.
Active parent participation is encouraged and conferences with a teacher and/or the director can be scheduled at any time. Formal conferences for parents of 3- and 4-year-olds are held in January.
The Southport Congregational Preschool & Toddler Program, which started in 1983, is a non-sectarian program.
Annual tuition rates in 2009-10 for the toddler program (2 years old to 3 years old) were $4,545 for three days a week; $3,630 for two days a week; and $1,560 for one day a week.
