Children's Center of Hamden
The Children's Center of Hamden, founded in 1833, is one of the oldest chartered, private child care agencies in the United States. It provides a wide range of services to children suffering from family abuse, and emotional, behavioral, psychological and social problems. The organization provides 9- to 15-month residential programs to children, ages 7-to-18. Its day care treatment programs serve more than 80 adolescents suffering from emotional difficulties. Its outpatient program provides substance abuse treatment and counseling to teenagers and their families. The organization receives funding from local school systems, state and federal grants, and contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations. The Children's Center of Hamden is located in Hamden, Conn., and has a staff of more than 150 child care workers, therapists and teachers.
