Simsbury United Methodist Church was founded in 1818. It has called several structures home through its long history. It has been housed in its current building on Hopmeadow Street since the early 1900s. A unique aspect to the 900-member church is its carillion concert series during the summer. A carillion is a musical instrument composed of 23 or more finely tuned bells covering at least two octaves. According to some sources, there are only about 600 in the world. People driving around town can sometimes hear the summer practice sessions.
