In this year at Mass we will hear from the gospel of Matthew. We will find Jesus announce that the "Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." Mt. 3: 2 and the call to repent. The Sermon on the Mount Mt. 4: 23 - 7: 29 includes the Beatitudes and the other demands that being a disciple of Jesus entails. This gospel has extensive references to the Old Testament and the beliefs of the Jewish faith community. The gospel of Matthew portrays Jesus as the fulfillment of God's covenant with the people of Israel. The Church continues through faith, love and service to be a community that keeps the mission of Jesus alive for our world today.
