Riverside Cemetery's quiet, well-kept grounds are shaded by oak trees and lie along the Farmington River. The grounds are hemmed in by an iron fence behind Miss Porter's School in Farmington center. Many of the town's fathers are buried there, along with Theodate Pope Riddle, matron of the Hillstead. Memorials for those who died in each war have been erected over the years. The grave of Foone, one of the Africans famous for the Amistad revolt, has been restored and is part of the Freedom Trail. A relatively new columbarium to store cremation ashes is on site as well as a vine-covered mausoleum.
