Pequot Yacht Club, about 1.26 acres at 669 Harbor Rd. in the town's Southport neighborhood, is a private yacht club that includes a senior clubhouse, junior clubhouse, docks, dry storage of program-oriented boats, a launch service for boats docked in Southport Harbor, and the sale of fuel and ice to the general public.
Though it's a private club, Pequot Yacht Club offers junior sailing programs that are open to nonmembers, most notably at the high school level, and its hosts open regettas and sponsors the Sea Scouts.
The club was founded in 1920 to encourage interest in sailing and its members have been active cruisers and racers in sailing at the regional, national and international levels. The club's Ideal 18 program provides club-owned boats for members' use, and the club has a group of Frostbiters who sail Dyer Dhows in the winter.
