Established in 1868, the New London Police Department maintains social order and peace, as well as provides law enforcement services. Located in New London, Conn., it offers services for the protection of residents lives and property, as well as deterrence, detection and investigation of criminal activities. The New London Police Department employs a staff of more than 100 full-time, sworn officers, volunteers and employees. The department supports Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.), which is a law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum that emphasizes immunization against delinquency, youth violence and gang membership. The New London Police Department also organizes a variety of community outreach and youth programs, including traffic law enforcement, child abuse prevention, and home, traffic, pedestrian, bicycle, boating and holiday safety tips.
