Pleasant Valley was founded as a Southern Baptist church in 1961 by Pastor James E. Schneider, Sr., his wife Louise, and 46 other charter members. The church began as a mission work initiated that met in the YMCA in New London, later moving to Pleasant Valley Elementary School as the congregation grew, before breaking ground on its current location on Grove Avenue in Groton.
