Located at the north end of Waveny Park, the Lapham Community Center is primarily the town senior center, though its doors are open to the whole community.
Lapham offers about 125 adult education classes throughout the year, from foreign language and fitness, art and cooking, to lectures on history and music.
The Yale mammogram van visits annually for screenings, and nurses come in for low-cost cholesterol testing. Help is available for people needing to access free credit reports or enrolling in the Medicare drug plan.
Bridge groups play here, and there's always goodies and coffee on hand so you don't have to bake or clean your bathroom to get in on a game. There's always a puzzle going, and there are pool tables downstairs.
The computer room has 12 PC terminals with scanners. Classes now cover online applications like YouTube, Skype, and Twitter. The computer doctor comes in periodically to help diagnose hardware and software problems.
There's a greenhouse and a "victory garden" outback tended by volunteers.
And if that wasn't enough, several civic groups meet here too, including the Senior Men's Club, the New Canaan Sewing Group, the Garden Club and the Garden Center.
