Founded in 1954, Greenwald Industries helped create and nurture what is known today as the coin-operated laundry industry, an industry unheard of before World War II. While laundries still represent its largest customer base, the company has broadened that base by developing coin-vending applications for other markets and, by expanding its expertise into smart card technology and applications. Greenwald Industries has its roots in Brooklyn, N.Y., where the company operated for more than 40 years. In 1996, it moved to a larger facility in Chester, Conn., on the banks of the Connecticut River.
