The First Congregational Church of Canton Center has been a focal point in the community since the mid-1700s. The First Ecclesiastical Society of West Simsbury was started in 1750. In 1814, the present-day structure was built by the society that has since changed its named to reflect Canton's 1806 incorporation. In the early days, the location also hosted town meetings and public functions. Today the church maintains strong ties to the community.
