History
Dimensional Dance began in February, 2011 with the performance M-Theory Beyond String Theory choreographed by director Ruth Lewis for the Ted Hershey Dance Marathon. The piece was created in consultation with Princeton University Professor Chiara Nappi, wife of famed physicist Ed Witten (who conceived of the idea M-theory). Our second year Ms. Lewis was commissioned to choreograph Wyeth: Looking Beyond for the Wadsworth Atheneum for their Andrew Wyeth exhibit. She worked with gaga dancer Arien Wilkerson and ballet dancer Matisse Madden. Most recently the company has focused on women's experiences and performed numerous pieces by female choreographers. These pieces include Phenomenal Woman inspired by Maya Angelou's poem, Fierce Like Frida about Frida Kahlo and One Art based on Elizabeth Bishop's iconic poem. For the 2021 season Ms. Lewis is leading the collaborative effort to create the new program Prudence Crandall and Sarah Harris: Whole Souled Women.
