Founded in 1968, the Department of Anesthesiology provides clinical anesthesiology and resident education programs. Located in New Haven, Conn., the department is part of Yale University School of Medicine, and it also offers undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs. The department provides clinical care to more than 28,000 patients annually in a variety of specialty areas, including ambulatory, cardiac, pediatric, acute and chronic pain management, obstetrics and vascular, and transplant and patient management. In addition, the department provides anesthesia and pain management services to the West Haven Veterans Hospital, and it offers a wide range of nerve blocks and alternative treatment strategies, including integration of primary care, pain psychology and physical therapy services. Department of Anesthesiology also offers literature-based conferences and problem based learning discussions that include quality improvement activities, and morbidity and mortality conferences
