Darien Book Aid is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that collects donated books and distributes them for free. Book Aid sends books all over the world to Peace Corps volunteers, teachers, libraries, schools, Native American and Appalachian groups, prisons and hospitals.
Book Aid accepts all kinds of donated books, as long as they are clean, non-highlighted and the spine is still in tact. If you’re donating textbooks, they cannot be more than 10 years old.
Book Aid receives a lot of books, and it relies on volunteers from the community to do a variety of tasks from changing light bulbs, to shelving books, to watering the geraniums. Anyone can volunteer and there are no rules with regards to how much time you have to commit.
