Prudence Crandall School, home of the Cougars, opened in the late 1960s. It is named afterPrudence Crandall, a Connecticut school teacher who admitted an African-American student into her classroom in 1833, resulting in the first integrated classroom in the United States. Bonnie Mazzoli currently serves as school principal. The baseball diamond behind the school is named the Richard Askin Memorial Field, in honor of the school principal who passed away unexpectedly in 2007.
