The Consultation Center is a cooperative endeavor of the Connecticut Mental Health Center, Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine, and Community Consultation Board, which is a private, nonprofit community organization. The center serves individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in Connecticut. It is funded by several federal, state and private organizations, such as the National Institute of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Children's Foundation of Connecticut, and Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. The Consultation Center serves as a multidisciplinary training site for undergraduates, graduates and professional students from the fields of psychology, social work, psychiatry, nursing, education, public health and divinity. The center offers a variety of drop-out prevention and school- and community-based substance abuse programs for adults, infants, children and adolescents. In partnership with City Wide Youth Coalition, The Consultation Center operates the Youth Development Training and Resource Center. In addition, it operates the Family Education & Support Program, Riverside Education Academy and Family Violence Education Program. The Consultation Center honors its employees through its annual prevention awards.
