The city's fire department is a combination of career and volunteer firefighters who respond to calls about fires, accidents and medical assistance. The department has two stations, 15 career firefighters, a handful of active volunteers, a deputy chief and a chief.
Company No. 1 has an engine, ladder truck and support vehicles. Company No. 2 has an engine, rescue truck, trailer with heavy rescue equipment and spare engine that can be used while others are being repaired.
Stations are staffed 24 hours a day, with three to five firefighters on each shift. The department responds to about 1,300 calls a year. Nicholas Delia is fire chief.
