Pentecostal churches in Connecticut are in short supply, which is why the Church of Pentecost parish has two locations in town that services a congregation of more than 250 families, with many coming from as far as way as New Haven, Middletown and Hartford to worship. In addition to the Tolland Turnpike location, there is a second Church of Pentecost in Manchester at 185 Woodbridge Street that holds services Wednesday and Friday mornings.
The Tolland Turnpike location was a former restaurant and banquet facility that the church began leasing in the summer of 2010, but which it has converted to include a large worship area that can accommodate about 450 people and classrooms in the rear of the building for religious studies group. Pastor Peter Willie said most of the parishioners who attend the Tolland Turnpike location are African immigrants or those whose families originally hail from Africa.
