History
Scott Park Phillips is the son of hippy royalty, he began studying martial arts in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco when he was ten years old. That summer his parents sent him to a Buddhist Monastery instead of summer camp. With a background in dance, gymnastics and improvisational theater, Scott's martial arts practice is both traditional and innovative. He opened North Star Martial Arts for both Children and Adults in 1996, in San Francisco, teaching classes in over 40 public schools, and to adults throughout the greater Bay Area. In 2014 he moved to Boulder, Colorado...and is loving it!
Specialties
Traditional Chinese Martial Arts: Chen style Taijiquan, Bagua Zhang, Kung Fu, Northern Shaolin, Liuhe Xinyiquan, Yiquan, and Qigong. I also incorporate Indian and African Dance, which help to frame the traditional Chinese martial arts as theatrical enlightenment traditions. Religious Daoism (Zhengyidao) is also a part of what I teach.
