History
I have a sense of myself in the womb with a needle and thread, which is sometimes how I describe my first memories of sewing. In short, I don't remember NOT sewing. As a very young person I began designing dresses for my Barbies with scraps my aunt collected for me at garage sales. My parents gave me my first sewing machine for my tenth birthday and I took off. I studied Fine Art, including weaving, beading, embroidery, fabric dyeing, screen printing, nature dye methods among other textile art classes in college. Upon graduation I landed a job in Seattle sewing for a reputable bridal shop. My sewing skills expanded in leaps and bounds with on the job training. Since then I have continued to sew and design dresses as well as obtain a Master's degree in Art Therapy and have become a mother to a young son. I grew up with an entrepreneur father and financial savvy mother who taught me about honesty, integrity and good ol'-fashioned customer service. I bring all these qualities to my work
Specialties
Maggie Evans Designs is a bridal dressmaking company that fashions one-of-a-kind wedding gowns specially made for each bride. We focus on intimacy of service, spending extra time and care with each bride and her gown, whether she needs simple alterations or her dream dress built from scratch. Our company crafts each project from simple silk fabrics showcasing the sculptural qualities of the fabric and the mark of the maker whenever possible. We do this through the use of needlework, custom dyeing, and other made-by-hand details. Our shop is for the bride who knows what she likes, who wants to be involved in the design, who is confident choosing a look that has not necessarily been legitimized by the masses.
