History
The Louisville Public Library has seen many changes since its humble beginnings in 1924, when the newly chartered Chinook Campfire Girls and their leader began collecting books donated by Louisville residents to form the nucleus for a public library. On August 7, 2006 the doors opened for our current library building at 951 Spruce Street. At 32,500 square feet, the new library building is approximately 2.4 times the size of the former library facility. In addition to the two-story library building, there is an underground parking garage with 84 parking spaces. Groundbreaking for the new library building occurred in March 2005, with completion on time and under budget in the summer of 2006.
