History
Purpose: Kilroy's Workshop was founded in 2013 to give kids a unique and safe outlet for hands-on creativity, and to develop skills that are useful regardless of future work goals. As kids learned, their parents wanted to as well, so we also have adult classes! Why the Trades?: Ron Hardman, founder of Kilroy's Workshop, grew up in shop class. Literally. Ron's dad was a high school shop teacher, and most days after school he found himself tinkering in one of the industrial arts rooms building something - anything. That freedom to create is alive-and-well at Kilroy's. For more information on our history, the reason for the name Kilroy's Workshop, or our instructors, visit KilroysWorkshop.com.
Specialties
Build - Cool - Stuff! We have some awesome youth and adult classes that use fire and sharp things to make other cool things. What's more fun than that? Blacksmithing (ages 10 & up): Fire up a forge to more than 2,000 degrees F, heat up some steel, and forge something cool on an anvil that is more than 100 years old! Use your creativity and make some artistic blacksmith pieces, or learn how to make some really cool blades. All students start off at the Apprentice I level and work their way up to Apprentice II, Journeyman, and Master levels. Each level includes tougher (and even cooler) projects as you develop your skills. Welding (ages 10 & up): Learn how to do stick or MIG welding at our awesome welding stations. We use Miller welders, auto-darkening helmets, and certi-flat welding tables to give you a great experience. Woodworking (ages 8 - 10): Our young students get started in woodworking using all hand tools. Make projects like marshmallow shooters, bench hooks, hovercrafts, or rabbit traps! We also host parties or group events. That goes for adults too, so if you have a work event for your office and want to do something a little bit different, give us a call. We work with the scouts, schools, and other groups, and even host birthday parties.
