Metro Districts of Highlands Ranch is the local government agency in Highlands Ranch, Colo. Founded in 1981, it owns and maintains a network of outdoor recreation amenities, with more than 20 parks, over 70 miles of trails and 2,000-acres of natural open space. Metro Districts works with several Douglas County organizations to ensure the safety and security of Highlands Ranch community members. Tri-County Health Department is the public health department, serving the area. Centennial Water and Sanitation District is the water and wastewater utility in Highlands Ranch that provides quality water supply through its state-of-the-art Joseph B. Blake Water Treatment Plant. In addition to providing infrastructure, Metro District s works staff also cooperates with regional agencies, such as Douglas County Public Works Department, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Denver Regional Transportation District, to coordinate other transportation projects and services.
