The Garfield County Child and Adult Welfare Department works with doctors, hospitals, law enforcement officials, schools and others to identify maltreatment and intervene with families where children have been abused or neglected. Its child welfare intake unit assesses and checks into child abuse and neglect allegations. The Garfield County Child and Adult Welfare Department has a sexual abuse intervention and family education team that works with local law enforcement and community agencies to protect incest victims. It also provides parenting classes, crisis intervention, life skills training, and domestic violence and drug and alcohol treatment services, as well as individual, group and family therapies. The department operates a 24-hour child abuse help line for addressing child abuse and neglect situations. It is operated by Garfield County Department of Human Services. The Garfield County Child and Adult Welfare Department is located in Rifle, Colo.
