We develop 'selves' that are allowed and 'selves' that are not allowed based on what we learn is acceptable/safe/right in our family and social experience. Through the practice, we cultivate a separate energy that is not identified with any of the 'selves', but is able to relate to the 'selves' in a non-judgmental, accepting way. When we learn to live from this energy, we experience greater peace, joy, and well-being.
