In 1910, portions of Jefferson County, Colo., were beginning to develop as an area for suburban living. Unfortunately, water supply was a problem. Surface wells yielded hard water and were frequently subject to contamination. In 1926, the water companies of Oaks Mutual, Glen Creighton Mutual, Wadsworth Mutual and North Wadsworth Mutual were merged into The Consolidated Mutual Water Company. In addition, nearly 10 other water systems have since joined the company. The company still follows the original pattern of the early cooperatives with ownership by the water users. Service is provided to an estimated population of 83,000 within a more than 25-square-mile service area in eastern Jefferson County through an approximate 340-mile pipeline network. Throughout the years, it has continued to replace, enlarge and enhance its water and operating systems to serve the community better by providing quality domestic water and services. The Consolidated Mutual Water Company is headquartered in Lakewood, Colo.
